Description:

Request a Grant Writer

Reimbursement grants to USA, Canada, and International computer scientists to mitigate the costs of attending a technical conference. Successful applicants will receive funds to defray the expense of conference attendance. Funding is intended to cover registration fees. Computer scientists from academia or industry who identify as female or who are members of groups that are underrepresented in technology are encouraged to apply.

As part of their ongoing commitment to encourage diversity in advanced computing, USENIX offers Diversity Grants at USENIX ATC '20 to support computer scientists interested in attending their conference. Computer scientists from academia or industry who work in or study computer science or a related field are encouraged to apply.

The 2020 USENIX Annual Technical Conference (USENIX ATC '20) will take place July 15-17, 2020. With safety in mind, the Conference will take place as a virtual event. USENIX ATC brings together leading systems researchers for the presentation of cutting-edge systems research and the opportunity to gain insight into a wealth of must-know topics, including virtualization, system and network management and troubleshooting, cloud and edge computing, security, privacy, and trust, mobile and wireless, and more.

Estimated Size of Grant:

Diversity Grant recipients will have their registration costs reimbursed by their grant funds.

Term of Contract:

The Conference will take place July 15 - 17, 2020.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

All computer scientists from academia or industry who identify as female or who are members of groups underrepresented in tech are encouraged to apply.

Eligibility:

- Identify as a female or a member of another underrepresented group in tech
- Work in or study computer science or related field
- Attend the three full days of the main Conference Program
- Agree to be contacted by USENIX and diversity grants program sponsors about future events and opportunities

Post-docs are eligible to apply if they meet the above qualifications.

For Diversity Grants, preference is shown to:

- First-time applicants and those who have not received a grant in the past 12 months.
- Applicants with significant financial need.
- Applicants presenting at the event who do not have alternate sources of funding available to them.

Pre-Application Information:

The application deadline is Monday, June 29, 2020, at 11:59 pm Pacific Time. Notifications of awards will be sent via email prior to the first day of the conference.

Diversity Grant recipients will have their registration costs reimbursed by their grant funds. The USENIX Grant Program rarely has enough funds to cover all travel and/or hotel expenses for grant recipients. To that point, when completing the expense request portion of your application, base your accommodation expenses on sharing a room at the conference hotel.

If you are applying for a grant and require a visa to attend the conference, submit your visa application as soon as possible. Visa applications for travel to USENIX conferences may require a letter from USENIX. To request an invitation letter, please email USENIX.

Do not register for the conference--even if you are an author or a presenter--until you are notified about your grant. If you receive a grant, you will be sent detailed registration instructions.

Applicants can be awarded only one grant each calendar year. Those who qualify are welcome to apply for both a Student Grant and a Diversity Grant for the same conference, though only one grant will be awarded.
