Grants of up to $5,000 to USA, Canada, and International graduate students and faculty affiliated with nonprofit institutions of higher education for research to benefit the health and safety of children and youth. Funding is intended to support behavioral and psychological research related to the prevention of injuries in children and adolescents through accidents, violence, abuse, or suicide.

The Lizette Peterson Homer Memorial Injury Research Grant supports research into psychological and behavioral aspects of the prevention of injuries in children and adolescents as reflected in the activities and interests within pediatric psychology of the late Lizette Peterson-Homer and her commitment to improving the status of children in the face of the most significant threats to their health and development. 

Most APF programs allow for a wide range of direct costs.  Examples include (but are not limited to): participant payments, supplies, technology expenses (software, hardware, imaging, etc.), travel to conduct research, travel to disseminate findings, stipend/salary support, course buy out and supplemental training. Budget proposals must be accompanied by a thorough justification.

Funding begins when recipients submit IRB approval and the required paperwork. APF funding will continue for a maximum of 12 months from the date of the grant, unless otherwise specified.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Eligibility:
-Student and/or faculty at an accredited university.
-Demonstrated research competence and area commitment.
-IRB approval must be received from host institution before funding can be awarded if human participants are involved.

International applicants from countries that have diplomatic relations with the United States and who meet the other eligibility requirements may apply for APF funding.

To receive APF funds, recipients must be affiliated with a nonprofit charitable, educational or scientific institution, or governmental entity operating exclusively for charitable and educational purposes.

APF does not allow institutional indirect costs or overhead costs. Applicants may use grant monies for direct administrative costs of their proposed project.

Applications are due at 11:59 p.m. on the due date posted on APF’s website.

APF cannot disburse grant monies without IRB approval. Successful applicants have six months from the date of the grant approval to obtain IRB approval, or the grant will be rescinded.
